“Double Standards”

A kid brought a pencil from school, when his dad came to know, he got very angry and slapped the kid. Dad said, you have brought the pencil from school, it’s stealing. You would have told me and I would have brought it from office. The kid was really confused thinking, if he brought it from school, it’s stealing and if his dad bring it from office, it’s something else . Many times in our life we apply the double standards without even knowing that how it is impacting our family, kids, society and country.

Double standard is when we apply a rule or principal differently or unfairly to different people or situations. Actually we are so used to these double standards that we don’t even realize in our day to day life and keep making the same mistake again and again. Everyone wants change but no one wants to change . We want others to be fair to us but we treat them unfairly. A father holding a wine glass in his hand telling his son , drinking is bad habit. Where are we leading in our life and these double standards are making life so confusing for the kids that it has really become hard for them to understand that what is right and what is wrong . The kids get most impacted with these kind of situations as their brain is not accustomed to these double standard and they apply the right logic . When they fail to understand they get confused and try to get the information from wrong sources which makes them more confused.

Here are few of the daily life examples of double standard

1. We want change but we don’t want to change

2. We want clean city but I can throw garbage anywhere

3. If my neighbor doesn’t clean my snow he is mean and if I don’t I am busy.

4. Everyone wants Bhagat Singh but it should born in neighbor’s house

5. People worship Durga but abuse girls.

These are few of the examples which we see or practice in our daily lives. We have become so used to the double standards and actually many times don’t even realize while practicing it in our day to day life. We should be more thoughtful and try to practice what we preach in our lives. It will help us to make ourselves a better person and only a better person can make a better society, better society makes a better nation and better nation makes better world. Let’s take a pledge that we will try to overcome the doubles standards in our life and will try to make our life more meaningful not only for ourselves but also for others.

What is easy: To change 1000 idiots or change one?

There is a common saying that common sense is not very common and if someone is lacking in common sense, in other words they are idiots. I am sure many of us feel like we are surrounded by people who lack common sense and it makes us upset or irritated but unfortunately you can’t do anything as some of them are your friends and others are your relatives.

But that’s not the topic of my discussion today, the real topic is “What is Easy to change, 1000 idiots or to change 1.”

Before I further go into my own thought process, please answer this question to yourself. I am sure majority of us might have thought it’s easy to change 1 rather than thousand. But the real wisdom is to understand which one person we have to choose to change. Did you ever think the same way we understand that our friends and relatives do the idiotic things, majority of time we also might be doing many of those activities which looks idiotic to others but most of the time we don’t even realize it.

It’s a normal human behavior that we easily identify the fault of others but ignore our own. But in Real life we might be doing much more than what we see in others. Once we realize it then it becomes so easy to rectify it. The real challenge is the realization but if someone really want to change himself/herself, it’s very easy to do the self realization. You just have to imagine if the same act is done by someone else, how would you feel? If you feel that if done by others you will get a feeling that they are doing something idiotic, and then you have your answer and better avoid doing that so that others don’t feel the same for you.

It’s so easy to change one person and that’s yourself. Think about it, you know yourself very well from the past many years and if you can’t change someone who you know so well, how can you change others to whom you don’t even know well. Once you start working on yourself, all of a sudden you will realize that all other idiots are getting better in your surroundings. It was our thought process which was killing us once we change our thought process then things automatically starts getting better. Life will become so simple that you won’t even feel something needs to be changed in others. Let’s all work together to change that one idiot who lives with us 24 hrs rather than changing those 1000s who lives in our surroundings.

“My Broker of Record is good”

During a recent interview with a group of Realtors® who wanted to join Save Max platform, I somehow got into an interesting discussion which encouraged me to write this article. One of the Realtor® kept saying that our Broker of Record / Manager is a good person by heart and he talks nicely to everyone. But he was still inclined to join our platform. I was little confused and wanted to understand the reason that if he is satisfied with his brokerage why he wants to join us.

Let me first explain you our thought process for hiring. At Save Max we have a policy of not hiring everyone who come and approach us, so we always try to find good reason for rejection as well. We have created an atmosphere which encourages anyone to perform better and we bring them to the next level of their performance. Our first criterion of hiring is that we need people with two in build qualities; one is positive attitude and second is Team player. If we find any of these is missing, we simply don’t take that individual on board. As I personally believe that it’s very hard to change a negative person and if you are not a team player, we don’t need you. When it comes to Real Estate knowledge and business, we can teach you and with a confidence that no one can do better job than us when it comes to training any individual.

So keeping in view the same principal we have designed our hiring process where we interview each individual at least 3 times to ensure our hiring is as per our standards. In coming days I will share some data with you to show you How Save Max produce most productive people in the industry.

Let’s continue to our point of discussion with the Realtor®, so I started enquiring more that what he was missing if he has a good BOR / Manager. When I dig deep into the information, I found that he hardly met his BOR/ Manager and even when they met there was just a good Hi Hello kind of conversation. Then I further enquired and came to know that last few years his performance was not at all consistent. It was like one year good, next year bad then worst and then again good. Now this is the most alarming signal for me when I see Realtors® with inconsistent performance or may be even stable sales no for last few years that are a clear indication that you are lacking the right mentorship or you don’t have the right guidance of business.

Now let’s understand it better, you have a good BOR / Manager who is a good person but what if that person have no knowledge, communication and goal setting for you as a Realtor® or Team member . Being good by nature doesn’t make me good professional. I personally would love to work with someone who is a good professional not only who is a good person. Because I have joined them as a business not as a friend. Our priorities in our business should be clear and our first focus should be to work with good a professional who makes you a better professional and enhance your performance. It’s the job of a BOR/ Manager to make sure to bring the best out of you not just talking sweet with you and I have seen in many cases there is actually no communication or minimal Communication. Just imagine if there is no communication then what could be the problem. Don’t look for a good BOR/ Manager, look for a professional BOR and then see how your performance gets better and your become a good Realtor®.

Based on my experience I will give you few pointers.

Please ensure to take a problem to your BOR /Manager every week and see how he solves that problem for you. If he gives you a productive suggestion which helps to do the business then he is a good professional. In case he avoids your call and have no time for you, then you can well understand.

2. Emphasize on having a monthly meeting with him about your performance. Though I believe that it’s his /her job to call you for a monthly meeting to evaluate and suggest you future course of action.

3. If in your office , one manage or BOR manage more than 50 people then only God can help you because its humanly not possible to manage that many people unless they have a hierarchy of team leaders or mentors . I have been enough in the industry; I know there is no place which has that hierarchy except save Max

4. If you don’t get a call within 2-3 min when you are sitting in a deal then it’s a big problem as you may lose that business because of lack of advice. Sometimes we feel that we are experienced enough that we don’t need advice and I can assure you that is a biggest mistake. It’s always good to have an opinion or I would say morale support from someone who has better knowledge and understanding of business.

5. If you’re BOR/Manager don’t discuss about Real Estate and just offer you tea/coffee and in some cases drinks then wish you good luck. Just imagine how will you learn and make yourself better.

Folks, many time we ignore these things in our life and just look for people who talk sweetly to us and make us comfortable, I personally would love to work with someone who is a good professional as makes me uncomfortable as it will make me a better professional and off course I will be a better performer than what I was yesterday.

****Why Giving Back to Society is important ****

I still remember when almost 16 years before, I landed into this beautiful country, 2 bags in my hand and a return ticket as I had a plan to go back after getting my immigration documents and then will see how to move ahead in my life. I am not sure if it was destiny but I decided to stay back. I felt so good and really loved everything here either it was system, culture, atmosphere and every other thing was so fascinating that I called my dad and said, I am not coming back. Though it was a tough call as I had a well settled life there and wanted to go back.

If I look back and try to analyze the situation, I personally feel that this is such a great country and gave me an opportunity to become what I am today. I come from a humble background , I am sure I would have been very successful in India as well but still I feel what I could have done here , would have been more challenging to do back home . I feel myself indebted to this country , this society and this community for my whole life that it gave an opportunity to a person like me to become successful, build my nest here, establish my business, raise my kids and overall living a good life in this land of opportunities.

Don’t you think it becomes my personal duty to take care of the community and country which has given me so much without even asking for it? I feel whatever the best I could do for others in this community would be less as my everything belongs to this place now. I know we all love our mother land and will always feel attached to our roots but we should be equally responsible for our beautiful country Canada. I always debated on the definition of family. For me, my family is the whole world, as we all are related with each other through a more strong relationship than blood relation and that relationship is called humanity.

I feel there is no bigger relation than humanity and by virtue of that all people living in world are my family. If we have got success and are capable to do something we should definitely come forward and fulfill our responsibility to take care of our family. If we get someone in our family who is not privileged to have the basic necessities of life , we always come forward and help them for their basic needs of life . The same way if there is anyone who you can help, don’t hesitate to come forward and help them. I can personally assure you by helping others you will never ever be deprived of anything in your life, rather you will grow much more than what you deserve in your life.

I will share my personal experience of life, I always feel myself blessed and in my humble opinion , I have got much more in my life than what I really deserve . If I have to give credit to anything in my life for success , I will simply give credit to blessings from my parents , my friends , well wishers and truly saying everyone who kept me in his thoughts and prayers . Those people always kept sending good energies and best wishes to me and it helped me to make good decisions in my life. When we become successful we always try to take credit of our success and keep boasting by saying, it’s my hard work and intelligence. We forget that there are many others who are smarter than us and working much harder than us but unfortunately they are not able to even meet their basic needs. Did you ever think what could be the reason for you or me being better than them?

I simply feel nature has chosen us to be strong, to be successful and gave us an authority to lead. But as you know every authority comes with accountability and here we are given a responsibility to help those who are less privileged. If we won’t fulfill our responsibility with utmost sincerity there are good chances that our authority will be taken back. I am not a believer of God but I believe in nature which I can see from my eyes and can feel everywhere but that doesn’t mean that I don’t respect the religion and religious people. I respect their belief and their faith in God. Whatever helps anyone to become a good human being is ultimately good.

I feel so happy when I extend my helping hand to someone and I always believe in giving back to the community and society, as it’s very important to pay back your debt to live on this beautiful planet called earth.

I am sure today’s article will inspire at least one person to do something good for the society and community and if it happens I will feel I am doing my job properly, of encouraging others to do something good in their life.

Technology: An Enabler

We are living in 21st century fully dominated by technology. Computer and internet is known as one of the most dynamic invention of mankind after the wheel. Now a day’s technology has dominated all the fields of our life and it’s almost impossible to think anything without it. Either it’s our day to day life, our work, office, manufacturing, service industry, transportation, aviation and blah blah. You wake up in the morning, the day start with technology and until we sleep and even when we are sleeping, it has capture our mind, body and soul to a level where thinking living life with it is not possible. Of course there are many disadvantages of technology but if I evaluate the advantages they are much more than any negative impacts. Rest it all depends upon us how we utilize technology as our enabler.

I will share my personal experience of life with you. I am not so much tech savvy and the other part of the story is, I don’t have any techie acumen as well. It becomes very hard for me whenever I have to use any high level technology. I really lose my focus and get little frustrated. But at the back of my mindset, I could always see technology as an enabler to my personal and professional life. Now I had a choice that I should learn about technology but I decided to choose another option, rather than spending too much time on learning everything from the scratch. And even then there was a big issue that you have to keep up to date yourself with the fast changing pace of the technology which is changing pretty much on daily basis. The other option was that I should surround myself with high tech people who carry that acumen and love keeping pace with the fast changing trends as well. That idea worked very well, and it gave me an advantage that I can keep focusing on doing what I am best to do and my tech team always kept me up to date with the latest tech trends. This combination proved vital in my business.

I will also share a latest example where we team up with one of the very high tech guy who has worked more than two decades in MNCs and successfully integrated many businesses with high level technology. We met few months before in a flight and started having conversations. We became good friends and finally he decided to join hands with Save Max to equip us with latest technology to smoothen and strengthen our growing business. New Year: New Hope, New Energy, New Me

Today is the day when everyone is excited that something new will happen tomorrow. We all will gather tonight with our friends and family to ensure to say good bye to 2019 and a warm welcome to first year of new decade 2020. We all will have high hopes and I am sure each one of us is waiting for this New Year day from last few weeks. You might have heard many people saying, I have to do this, I have to do that but I will do it in New Year.

So let’s talk about what will change tomorrow? Why we all are waiting something to happen tomorrow which we are thinking will change our life. Do you think Sun will come from other direction or something significant will change which will help us to be different. In my humble opinion, it’s all psychology which we just keep playing with ourselves. First of all it will be just a new day as like others but we will be more recharged after New Year parties and enthusiasm will be different to do new things for the coming year.

But what should be the real change, do you think by just changing a day, our life will become better. Not really!!! We have to change ourselves and if someone is really determined then you don’t need a New Year date to make a new you. If you really want to change your life, make sure you have to change yourselves and if you really want to change yourself, you won’t wait for a specific date.

Life is very clear and simple, if you are doing the same things which you were doing earlier, you will get the same outcome. If you want to get different outcome, you have to do something different.

I personally don’t feel the need for a specific date to make my resolution. I try to promise myself the same moment I realize that I need to make a change. I immediately start working on it as it takes a lot of time to change anything especially something which someone has learned for almost half of their life. Learning a new thing is always easy but changing an old one is always a challenge. You have to first unlearn in case you want to change something so there are 2 processes involved, first unlearn the old stuff and then learn the new. That’s why it’s always better to inculcate good habits from your childhood as it’s easy to learn at that time.

But still for the satisfaction of everyone else let’s make some New Year’s resolutions and keep telling yourself that we will start in the second week of January. This will help you to redo the same resolutions next year and the trend will keep going on for our life without any change.

“Simplicity is Elegance“

I am reading an amazing book which is about one of the most dynamic leader of the business world “Steve Jobs”. Jobs were known for his arrogance and irrational behavior in the business world especially among his team of Apple. In spite of all his personal challenges, people still wanted to work with him as he knew how to get the best out of them. He always used to push people to their limits and got the best out of them. The best part of his personality was, he was a perfectionist and always believed on simplicity. He has a strong conviction that simplicity is very powerful when it comes to the design and elegance of his product. He always try to make things simple yet elegant and all this is clearly visible in any of the Apple products there in the market. Off course he wanted to rule the world with his business but if we go through his life, he lived it very simple.

The same rules apply in our day to day life. When it comes to getting the success or dominating in the market in any stream of business, most of the times simple things have changed the world. It’s not necessary to make the things complex which most of the time we do. When we follow the rule of simplicity, it takes so much less energy and produces such a dynamic results which helps us to enjoy the success at extreme level. The rule of simplicity is equally good in our personal life either it’s our eating habits or good looks by wearing a simple yet elegant clothing’s. Eating simple food will always keep you healthy and energetic and the same way having a simple wardrobe to enhance your looks will make you consume less energy to choose the clothes every day.

Simple living, high thinking is the secret to a better and balanced life. The same principal is adopted by most of the intellect personalities in the world. Simplicity is the real sophistication and it has its own elegance. If you want to lead a happy life then follow the simple principal of simplicity and it will lead towards the real happiness of life. Majority of the times it’s not easy to be simple in this complex world but once you get used to it then it becomes so easy to be simple .

“Life of successful Realtor®”

Every day I come across many Realtor® friends who are successful and enjoying a wonderful career as a Realtor®. I do a lot of discussions with them to understand how their life style is and what their future plan is. I have come across few common challenges which all of them face in their professional and personal life.

Two major challenges which are very common

1. There is no further vision how they can reach to next level

2. They don’t have time for family or friends

When any Realtor® attains a level of success the biggest challenge comes what next. If you are doing the same thing which you were doing earlier the result will be same. You might increase no of transactions to a level as there are physical limits to work for any individual. If you want to grow, you have to build a system. The challenge is Real Estate industry which works on a flat model and not too many brokerages have the technical knowhow to support Realtors® to build a strong system. Their business model just works well for individual Realtors® and best to best they will give you a facility to incorporate your business for tax saving purpose. The biggest challenge comes that the successful Realtors® get complacent and start going down on their performance which is the case with most successful Realtors® in 5 years career span. The biggest mistake they make is they don’t work on building a system.

Off course it’s very well understand that when you have reached at a level where you are doing 30-40 transactions , your days get so busy and on top you want to make sure that your service level stays at par with the industry . You have to provide best to your clients and work life balance becomes the challenge. Then you have to compromise your quality time with your family and loved ones. Again the challenge is that you have not been trained to build a system which should continuously work for you. Your business is an individual driven and totally depends on your presence.

I always say If you mentor doesn’t know how to fly a plane, he won’t be able to teach you. Just imagine your mentor has reached only a team lead level, how can he take you to next level. It’s very important to choose the system which has a proven track record. Work in a system where you see there is a growth model for all level of Realtors®.

“Common Sense: Not very Common”

We hear this everyday from our friends, family and colleagues that common sense is not very common. Did we ever think what this common sense is. How does it impact our day to day lives and most importantly why it’s not that common?

Common sense is our natural ability to make good judgments and to behave in a practical and sensible way. Now the question arises, where does this common sense comes from? The simple answer to this is, it comes from experience not studies. This will help us to analyze why it’s not very common. The world has changed and the education system especially in South Asian countries has become so burdensome that majority of our younger generation and parents made education as the criteria of success. Not only education but over use of technology has played an important role to make this rare commodity, called common sense, disappear. The world has become so much dependent upon irrelevant information that people have forgotten to experience many things in life. If you don’t get experience, you will lack on common sense.

So here is the catch, common sense is neither common nor sense, people are not making sound judgments because of lack of real life experiences. We buy stuff which we can’t afford. We eat so much junk food rather than eating healthy. Kids play more video games rather than playing in the parks and grounds. People are running after jobs rather than doing their own works. We are travelling by cars and motor bikes rather than bicycle and walking. All these and many more other things have made a lot of impact on people’s life and we are losing our common sense.

If we look back and see our previous generations, we will admire their common sense and their handling of real life situations which made more practical sense. Now a day’s majority of our decisions are taken by Google, as we rely more on machines to help us provide the information which has no authenticity. We have forgotten to take advice or suggestions from our elders who have lived a practical life and can give much better analysis than computers. Unfortunately, we are giving the same advice to our next generations and not realizing that it may harm their future badly and that’s a very good example of common sense being extremely extinct.

Let’s make our life simple and better. We should encourage our next generations to experience things and life , eat healthy , encourage kids to do exercise , spend lot of quality time with them , understand their problem and be their guide , we have to become their mentors and also give them liberty to make independent decisions , share jokes and laughter.

Let’s use our common sense to bring back the common sense in our common lives and life will be much easier, simpler and enjoyable.

“I am open to accept Gifts”​

This is the festival season and I am observing every now and then someone drops a gift basket at my office to share his gratitude of relationship. Some do it as it’s their professional obligation as they are doing business with you, some do it because they respect you and some do it because they love you. Whatever the reason is, it’s a way to send their best wishes and regards during the festive season.

I was just thinking about it and let me share the fact with you. Most of the gift basket carries sweets, chocolates and the items which we normally don’t use in our day to day life. Is it necessary and if yes then what should be the gift. I am sure you all are aware about my growing passion about books. I have decided that whenever I need to give a gift to anyone, I will give a set of books and will encourage that person to do the same. I would strongly urge to all the readers that in case you can also plan to do the same and make it as your New Year resolution. May be this small initiative of mine changes the mindset of at least one person, it will be more than enough. As that one person is good enough to pass down the message to a second one and second one to third one. The chain reaction can create a revolution and we can make sure that the most relevant gift of books becomes a tradition in our society.

A book as a gift is a real treasure of wisdom for the recipient and why not to present a treasure to your kids, family members and friends. Take advantage of this holiday season and your friend is waiting for a gift from you.
