A kid brought a pencil from school, when his dad came to know, he got very angry and slapped the kid. Dad said, you have brought the pencil from school, it’s stealing. You would have told me and I would have brought it from office. The kid was really confused thinking, if he brought it from school, it’s stealing and if his dad bring it from office, it’s something else . Many times in our life we apply the double standards without even knowing that how it is impacting our family, kids, society and country.

Double standard is when we apply a rule or principal differently or unfairly to different people or situations. Actually we are so used to these double standards that we don’t even realize in our day to day life and keep making the same mistake again and again. Everyone wants change but no one wants to change . We want others to be fair to us but we treat them unfairly. A father holding a wine glass in his hand telling his son , drinking is bad habit. Where are we leading in our life and these double standards are making life so confusing for the kids that it has really become hard for them to understand that what is right and what is wrong . The kids get most impacted with these kind of situations as their brain is not accustomed to these double standard and they apply the right logic . When they fail to understand they get confused and try to get the information from wrong sources which makes them more confused.

Here are few of the daily life examples of double standard

1. We want change but we don’t want to change

2. We want clean city but I can throw garbage anywhere

3. If my neighbor doesn’t clean my snow he is mean and if I don’t I am busy.

4. Everyone wants Bhagat Singh but it should born in neighbor’s house

5. People worship Durga but abuse girls.

These are few of the examples which we see or practice in our daily lives. We have become so used to the double standards and actually many times don’t even realize while practicing it in our day to day life. We should be more thoughtful and try to practice what we preach in our lives. It will help us to make ourselves a better person and only a better person can make a better society, better society makes a better nation and better nation makes better world. Let’s take a pledge that we will try to overcome the doubles standards in our life and will try to make our life more meaningful not only for ourselves but also for others.

I still remember when almost 16 years before, I landed into this beautiful country, 2 bags in my hand and a return ticket as I had a plan to go back after getting my immigration documents and then will see how to move ahead in my life. I am not sure if it was destiny but I decided to stay back. I felt so good and really loved everything here either it was system, culture, atmosphere and every other thing was so fascinating that I called my dad and said, I am not coming back. Though it was a tough call as I had a well settled life there and wanted to go back.

If I look back and try to analyze the situation, I personally feel that this is such a great country and gave me an opportunity to become what I am today. I come from a humble background , I am sure I would have been very successful in India as well but still I feel what I could have done here , would have been more challenging to do back home . I feel myself indebted to this country , this society and this community for my whole life that it gave an opportunity to a person like me to become successful, build my nest here, establish my business, raise my kids and overall living a good life in this land of opportunities.

Don’t you think it becomes my personal duty to take care of the community and country which has given me so much without even asking for it? I feel whatever the best I could do for others in this community would be less as my everything belongs to this place now. I know we all love our mother land and will always feel attached to our roots but we should be equally responsible for our beautiful country Canada. I always debated on the definition of family. For me, my family is the whole world, as we all are related with each other through a more strong relationship than blood relation and that relationship is called humanity.

I feel there is no bigger relation than humanity and by virtue of that all people living in world are my family. If we have got success and are capable to do something we should definitely come forward and fulfill our responsibility to take care of our family. If we get someone in our family who is not privileged to have the basic necessities of life , we always come forward and help them for their basic needs of life . The same way if there is anyone who you can help, don’t hesitate to come forward and help them. I can personally assure you by helping others you will never ever be deprived of anything in your life, rather you will grow much more than what you deserve in your life.

I will share my personal experience of life, I always feel myself blessed and in my humble opinion , I have got much more in my life than what I really deserve . If I have to give credit to anything in my life for success , I will simply give credit to blessings from my parents , my friends , well wishers and truly saying everyone who kept me in his thoughts and prayers . Those people always kept sending good energies and best wishes to me and it helped me to make good decisions in my life. When we become successful we always try to take credit of our success and keep boasting by saying, it’s my hard work and intelligence. We forget that there are many others who are smarter than us and working much harder than us but unfortunately they are not able to even meet their basic needs. Did you ever think what could be the reason for you or me being better than them?

I simply feel nature has chosen us to be strong, to be successful and gave us an authority to lead. But as you know every authority comes with accountability and here we are given a responsibility to help those who are less privileged. If we won’t fulfill our responsibility with utmost sincerity there are good chances that our authority will be taken back. I am not a believer of God but I believe in nature which I can see from my eyes and can feel everywhere but that doesn’t mean that I don’t respect the religion and religious people. I respect their belief and their faith in God. Whatever helps anyone to become a good human being is ultimately good.

I feel so happy when I extend my helping hand to someone and I always believe in giving back to the community and society, as it’s very important to pay back your debt to live on this beautiful planet called earth.

I am sure today’s article will inspire at least one person to do something good for the society and community and if it happens I will feel I am doing my job properly, of encouraging others to do something good in their life.

We are living in 21st century fully dominated by technology. Computer and internet is known as one of the most dynamic invention of mankind after the wheel. Now a day’s technology has dominated all the fields of our life and it’s almost impossible to think anything without it. Either it’s our day to day life, our work, office, manufacturing, service industry, transportation, aviation and blah blah. You wake up in the morning, the day start with technology and until we sleep and even when we are sleeping, it has capture our mind, body and soul to a level where thinking living life with it is not possible. Of course there are many disadvantages of technology but if I evaluate the advantages they are much more than any negative impacts. Rest it all depends upon us how we utilize technology as our enabler.

I will share my personal experience of life with you. I am not so much tech savvy and the other part of the story is, I don’t have any techie acumen as well. It becomes very hard for me whenever I have to use any high level technology. I really lose my focus and get little frustrated. But at the back of my mindset, I could always see technology as an enabler to my personal and professional life. Now I had a choice that I should learn about technology but I decided to choose another option, rather than spending too much time on learning everything from the scratch. And even then there was a big issue that you have to keep up to date yourself with the fast changing pace of the technology which is changing pretty much on daily basis. The other option was that I should surround myself with high tech people who carry that acumen and love keeping pace with the fast changing trends as well. That idea worked very well, and it gave me an advantage that I can keep focusing on doing what I am best to do and my tech team always kept me up to date with the latest tech trends. This combination proved vital in my business.

I will also share a latest example where we team up with one of the very high tech guy who has worked more than two decades in MNCs and successfully integrated many businesses with high level technology. We met few months before in a flight and started having conversations. Every day I come across many Realtor® friends who are successful and enjoying a wonderful career as a Realtor®. I do a lot of discussions with them to understand how their life style is and what their future plan is. I have come across few common challenges which all of them face in their professional and personal life.

The biggest mistake they make is they don’t work on building a system.

Off course it’s very well understand that when you have reached at a level where you are doing 30-40 transactions , your days get so busy and on top you want to make sure that your service level stays at par with the industry . You have to provide best to your clients and work life balance becomes the challenge. Then you have to compromise your quality time with your family and loved ones. Again the challenge is that you have not been trained to build a system which should continuously work for you. Your business is an individual driven and totally depends on your presence.

I always say If you mentor doesn’t know how to fly a plane, he won’t be able to teach you. Just imagine your mentor has reached only a team lead level, how can he take you to next level. It’s very important to choose the system which has a proven track record. Work in a system where you see there is a growth model for all level of Realtors®.

Recently I was analyzing the data for the Real Estate and came across an interesting fact. In majority of the brokerages, the top ten Realtors are doing good business and after that on an average the no of transactions were approx 5. The more surprising fact which I realized even the top 10 Realtors, the average no of transactions were 15-20 at the Max with few exceptions where the no of transactions goes beyond 40-50. But those are very few cases.

Before we go further deep down to it, let me share an interesting fact of life with you. Your level of success is determined by your surroundings. The same person who is a hero when he is among common public, can become zero when he is surrounded by the equivalent or better talent. To elaborate it more, let’s say you are seeking an admission in a university and you choose to go for the institution where the cut out mark for admission is 70% and your score is 80%. You will be considered as a topper there and will get the welcome like a hero. But just imagine what will happen to your heroism, if with the same percentage, you try to get an admission in other university where the cut out marks are 90% or above. Unfortunately you won’t even get an admission there, forget about the warm welcome.

The same happens in life especially in Real Estate. If you are working in a Brokerage where the average no of deals are 5-10 and you are doing 20, you are a top Realtor, as compared to, if you are working in a brokerage where average no. of transactions is 30 or more, by doing 20, you are an average performer. Now the million dollar question comes, then why we choose that brokerage. The simple reason is, our comfort zone. It’s a human nature that we are afraid of developing a high level of competence, as it needs a lot of hard work, sacrifice and of course inconvenience to mind and body. We become so used to that comfort zone that we don’t want to join a competitive atmosphere. The other biggest reason is our surroundings and our friends and family members who always preach us to stay in our comfort zone and become a hindrance from exploring our real potential.

Recently I met with a Realtor at my office, which was making 250K as gross commission and he was one of the top Realtor in his Brokerage. He was so happy and overwhelmed with his success and was boasting about his accolades, awards and trophies which he was getting from his brokerage as one of the top agent. I patiently listened to him for almost 15 minutes and then I shared the average performance of Realtors in Save Max where more than 20 people out of a team of 50 made more than 500 K as gross commission and won a Mercedes car from the brokerage with an exception of few who touched a 7 figure income. The best beauty that majority of these Realtors are an average 3 years of experience in Real Estate. After getting this information, he was feeling that he is not even an average performer as per our standards.

This is all about the atmosphere where you work. If you are working in a non competitive work place, with an average performance, you can become a hero but in a highly competitive place, you really need to be the best to reach on top. But as I mentioned, we love our comfort zone and try to keep giving our logic. The same thing this gentleman was trying to do and giving me logic that he is better off making 250 K as he is working on a low split of 90/10 as compared to 50/50 split of Save Max. I was so surprised with his mindset that without having the right information, he was working on the assumptions of life. When I furthered explained him about his expenses which he was incurring to make that 250K, as compared to expense sharing model of Save Max, where company spend all the money to conduct day to day business operations including staging , advertisements , sign boards and so on. Not only that when I showed the career path which he could never realize in his existing brokerage, finally he understood the no’s and future prospects. I can understand it was not an easy decision for him as work against the taboo in his mind but can assure that his final decision to join Save Max will change his career path in coming 1-2 years.

There are thousands of examples of those Realtors who are stuck up in their mind set and feel satisfied as top performers without realizing they are working in a non competitive brokerage which is the biggest hindrance to explore their potential to the fullest. Also they have to understand that there is no consistency in their performance, even that 250K is fluctuating and every time it’s going up and down. When it’s a good market they will make money and when it’s bad, they won’t. The simple reason that they are not working on a proven system and their success come by chance only. If they are working in a system, their performance will be stable and they will always look towards growth and a stable career in the industry. I have seen many Realtors who reached on top after working hard for 2-3 years and then had no further way to grow as they were lacking the direction and mentor-ship. Now if they don’t have a vision to grow then you can well understand what will happen. They have no choice to be stable or go down on performance. They didn’t work on to build a system for them and their success was totally dependent on their own presence. If they have to go out for vacation, all their business was on hold.

****P.S : Lastly my humble submission to all those Realtors to please stay in their comfort zone and don’t look for the competitive place to work, as it will help us to grow further and will help team Save Max to do more and more business and keep growing . ****

This topic is on a special request by a person who I consider as my role model in my life. Before we talk about the topic, I will share a small story with you.

Many years back I was approached by someone for an appointment to sponsor some event. I called the person at my office with a thought in my mind that there are many people conduct events to make money, and to attract people, they put forward name of any charitable organization so that people feel they are doing some charitable work and that’s how they make event successful and make money for them. Anyway, I invited the person to meet at my office. A young girl with an innocent face and a divine aura was sitting in front of me at my office. When she started talking and sharing her purpose to conduct the event, I did not believe that how someone cans in that age can think of encouraging people and that too in south Asian community, for the organ donation where it’s a big taboo about this topic.

People don’t even want to talk about organ donation as they believe in reincarnation and want to ensure they are born with all organs in next life. I was stunned to know that someone can have courage to fight the society and make it as a mission of her life to encourage people for this and that too without any self interest. That thought gave a chilling hit to my spine and I assured the person to support her mission for whole of my life. The simple reason for that was I am not that courageous to work selflessly for any cause and if someone has done that courage, attests I can extend my whole hearted support. I have no shame in admitting the fact that all our actions are business driven and there is a core objective of business so even if we are doing something good, it is not selflessness. We are selfish people and try to find business even in any charity or help to others. But someone and that took a female and that too from South Asian community, just imagines how many taboos of the society she was fighting against, is doing an act of kindness without any self interest. I thought if I don’t support her, which will be a shame of my life.

That day, which was almost a decade before and until today, I tried with my utmost sincerity to support her cause. I know I was not up to the mark but I always tried and also encouraged my kids, my family and my team to contribute a little whatever we were capable of and tried to support her mission.

You all might be thinking who that person is , who is this hero of our society which you might not even know , who is that common man or woman spreading warmth in this cold country . Friends let me disclose the secret and introduce Loveen Gill , a small town girl , a beautiful friend , a loving family woman , a role model , a hero , a great leader and above all a great human being who I always admire and look towards as my role model . I wish we have more power houses like her in our society and world will be much better place.

I know you all might be thinking that we have deviated so much from the topic but I think we didn’t. In a message yesterday, she asked me to write about vision and how do I set my focus of looking beyond horizon. Friends that’s how I envision , I keep my eyes, ears and brain open and look for those heroes, when I see them , I try to dig deep down into their heart and soul and try to learn from them . It helps me to open up my brain to broaden my vision. I try to copy them and use their abilities and become selfish to expand my business. I see they are getting happiness by helping others, I follow their quality and try to help others in my business and that makes me successful. I see they are acting like a leader to run a bandwagon for their mission; I learn leadership from them and use the same in my business. I see their courage and kindness for a mission and I follow them. So it’s very simple to have the vision and look beyond horizon that have a open mind to follow these leaders as they have the vision , they have the courage , they have the leadership and they have the capacity and capabilities to look above and beyond horizon and that’s what I do to expand my horizon .
